The weight of all this stuff is minimal.
I can actually "stuff" the boats full of gear on the ground, haul them up with bow line and strap down to the racks. It's pretty easy.
If you carry your boats upside down...you might consider flipping them...
This system has worked very well for us many times.

looked at upright but to save weight on the rack system not to mention $$ on mounts upside down and flat on the crossbars makes more sense. ( and the ratchets are snug not cranked down)
