fwiw, I had a Nissan Titan and it was a very capable 1/2 ton. You will run out of brakes and suspension long before you run out of power. Getting up the hills with the load and trailer you propose shouldn't be a problem.
I'm currently in a 3/4 ton but if I were looking at a 1/2 ton I'd take a hard look at the Armada/Titans. For some reason they are the red headed step child of the market segment and are likely the best value to be had.
