The reason I am interested in max tow rating is because I want to stay within 75% of rated capacity to provide power for mountains. My total load, including tongue weight, passengers, gear, etc is expected to be 12-1300. I don't want to tow 6K of weight with a 6500 lb. rated vehicle.
I don't know where you're getting your figures, but a 6000 lb trailer could have a tongue weight of close to 900 lbs all by itself. Do NOT use the mfg'ers payload rating as a guide. Guessing your weights is not good. Your best bet is go get the truck weighed and subtract that figure from the vehicle's GVWR....that will be your "actual" payload rating and anything and everything you put in or on it will need to be less (much less if possible).
Don't worry about the power, that v8 is a workhorse and will pull that amount of weight fairly easily. You will be dragged down on the steeper grades, but keeping the engine up around peak torque rpm will help (if you can handle the loud engine noise at that rpm).
Good luck
