If I'm not mistaken, the reason I love a diesel when pulling heavy loads is because when its time to accelerate on the highway, the engine just smoothly and steadily speeds up the vehicle with rarely a downshift. When I was using my former F350 and the 6.2L gasser, when it was time to accelerate, to achieve the same goal meant it downshifted several gears and screamed high RPMs to accomplish the feat.
Both got me to the goal of increased speed but in a different manner. I love the torque of a diesel.
