OK I have installed hundreds of helicoils in dies and other items. Before installing the helicoil you must first run a tap down through the hole you are repairing.
When you do this chips are fromed and will drop into the cylinder correct? Even if you had a left handed tap which would pull the chip up you still run the risk of some chips making it into the cylinder. How do you install the helicoils with the head installed :h ?
