I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on Craig's List, including selling my boat, cameras, cars, etc. I always post the deal has to be in person and cash only. I've never had a problem.
One car was sold to a guy who flew in, casher's check in hand for the full asking price. I picked him up at the airport and he drove my car home. No problem. (He was a deputy sheriff and I checked him and his check out before he arrived. He checked me and the car out (with the VIN) before flying in.) He later wrote that he and his wife were very happy with the car. It was a present to his wife for her birthday. (It was a red Mustang convertible.)
