We recently sold a fairly new Travel trailer. I tried to trade it in, but dealers wanted to give me $9K. I told one that it would sell, privately, for $15K. He told me that I was crazy, and that HE couldn't get that, and I never would since NOBODY could ever drop $15K. in cash, those deals are going to need to be financed. By the second week of the CL ad, I had a back up buyer for my second, and third back up buyers. Had two buyers that were ready with the cash, full price, when and if the original deal fell through.
Scams are a self inflicted wound. If you properly list your phone # and no other contact info, and make it clear that you will NOT be pleasant to the clowns and BSers that call, you will do quite well.
