Did you get a receipt i.e. papers that you paid for the vehicle? If so I would take it to the dept of motor vehicles. Keeping the vehicle and being afraid it will be impounded could just get you in more trouble. Plus, really at some point you need license plates. Several years ago this happened to me. I had papers "paid in full". CA DMV gave me my plates and the fraud people closed down the dealership. They had been frauding lots of people. If you keep the vehicle and hope for miracles if the vehicle really belongs to someone else without title release how long will be before some of those people file a police report? I'm sure at some point you would be cleared but I wouldn't want to be the one accused of receiving stolen property. JMHO
