First off, best advice you got here was go get professional advice. I haven't heard anyone here say they are a lawyer (and Im not either), but I did stay at a Holiday Inn a time or two.
Having said that, I would tend to think that this is a civil issue between the dealership and the consignee (or consignor, whatever is appropriate). None of us have insight into the agreement between the dealer and the previous owner. And you do not even know if there was a consignment issue in your case.
Who was listed as the "owner" on the title? Did this "owner" sign it, or someone else? Just curious. If the dealer was listed as the owner on the title, I don't see how you could lose the vehicle.
But, again, see a lawyer.
