So far, counting myself, I think there are 3 lawyers on this forum who have (and I chime in) advised to get competent local legal advice....and by advising to get competent local legal advice, I am not representing that this post is any sort of legal advice.
I would add that "competent local legal advice" means a lawyer properly licensed and admitted to the bar in the OP's state of residence and ideally, since that state appears to be Texas, admitted to appear before the 5th Circuit as well.
It's a bit unclear from the postings what "legal" advice has been given to the OP and the source of that "legal" advice, but "competent local legal advice" is not gained from any member of law enforcement, particularly in what could ultimately be a civil matter vis-a-vis the impact on the OP.
After 12 years membership on this forum, it amazes me: 1) how many barroom barristers there are on here; and 2) how the occasional advice from competent folks tends to get ignored......although #2 is probably understandable as anyone can pretend to be an attorney on here...hence see #1 :) .
