If parking is a huge issue, get a regular cab long bed 3/4 ton. As a bonus, it maximizes your payload capacity for towing.
Everything is a compromise.
Basically, the statement about "too much truck" is related to towing. If you need a vehicle to zip around tight urban roads, a Smart Car is much better...but the tow rating isn't so great.
