20 years ago when we would meet friends in dry campgrounds, they were much much quieter than they are now. I never heard generators and kids were told to go play somewhere it wouldn't bother others.
The two electric campgrounds we stayed in were much louder than the dry campground with the generators. Dogs, kids, boats, parties, trucks, music and TVs all going all the time. They cram you in like sardines and at night 50 or 60 campfires smoke up the place to the point that it is like a fog.
There are noises while boondocking too. In the early morning the birds can get so loud that I am amazed people can sleep thru it. All day we not only can hear the humming birds come to the feeder, we can hear all the insects flying around too. At night the coyotes yip and howl up a storm, occasionally our dogs will decide to join in around 2am. :)
One big difference the solar did was the wildlife. With the generator sitting out there full of gas and being run a few hours a day we never saw wildlife around the site. Last year we had deer, rabbits, marmots and others walking through the site on a regular basis. Other wildlife came close too so we never ever left the dogs unattended.
I still wish the 3100i would work for us because it would be so much quieter IF we needed charging.
