If you are looking for a diesel stay with a pre-emission truck. 07' and older. Just eliminates all the problems caused by the DPF's in the 08'-12' trucks.
Best years to look for in my opinion is 05'-07'.
Duramax powertrains were well sorted by then. Dad sold his 04' with 289k on the clock and its still running around today.
Cummins of those years are pretty rock solid. Just verify the trans is in good shape or has at least been rebuilt.
Every body knocks the 6.0 powerstroke. Although my old 04' had all the issues. Once it was fixed it was reliable. Most dealers by me that get 6.0's on trade. Bullet proof them before they hit the lot so they know people will not have any issues. I have also known many with 05'-07' that never had any problems.
Or go with a tried and true superduty with a 7.3 powerstroke. They can still be had with relatively low miles.
And with any diesel truck. If it looks like its been modded and beat on RUN!
