You definitely need to start with truck and if you don't buy dually, you will be limited with search for camper.
Prices vary a lot from state to state and there was good reason ($$$$) while living in California I was buying camper in Minnesota.
These are definitely more good points. I'm in Florida right now. Plan to buy a truck somewhere in the south where there are no rust buckets, then get tc anywhere east of the Rockies. Or a combo thst isn't in the rust prone zones.
I usually do the same as you, buying nationally.
