Here's the deal.
With the weight of your new trailer and you saying that you don't want to struggle towing it you're going to want a 1 ton dually diesel truck.
This becomes a problem now because you then say you are limited on budget and want a Ford.
The 06 down were 6.0's and the engines were.........aaaaaaaa......lets just say less than reliable. :B
Then we have the 6.4 Powerstroke from 07/08 to 10. These were a close second in reliability to the 6.0 and were waaaaaaaay more expensive to fix. They had problems with the fuel system, the turbo's and went through radiators like popcorn. Some replaced 3 or more radiators on these trucks at 2K a pop. This engine also drank fuel like a drunk at an open bar event. :E
Now that leaves us with the 6.7 from 11 on up. If you buy an early one from 11 to 13 you can have the dreaded valve problems.. They have a bad habit of falling off of the stems. :E This is what happens when the head falls off of the stem. :E
Then we have turbo problems.
And more turbo problems.
More turbo problems.
Ford had so many turbo problems with their 6.7 they went to super balancing the wheels. That didn't work either so they finally gave up ,cried uncle on the duel wheel setup and went with a single wheel on the 2015 engines. This will solve the issue because it is the same type of turbo GM has been running for years with no problems. I don't even want to mention the 12 to 15K HPFP problems you can have with just a few drops of water in the pump. :E
As you can see, the older 6.7 has some problems. Did Ford address these problems with the 2015 engines? Yep, sure did. :) Will all of their fixes work? We won't know that until the miles start rolling up.
I'm not a first year engine fix guy for any brand. Too many problems to deal with. A lot of these companies want you to be a beta tester for them. Not just Ford.
From the sound of it, you don't want to by new anyway so a 2015 is not in the cards for you.
As you can see, this limits your options if you want to stay with Ford. I guess you could go with a V10. That is one of the best towing gas motors on the block, if not "the" best. But then you have the struggling issue to deal with.
As you can see, you have some issues to work through.
Good luck with your decision and happy travels! :)
