350/3500 series truck would work for you. Dually or not, either way you're probably fine.
Same w/ gas vs diesel. The gas would get it done, but personally, I couldn't imagine owning a 1-ton truck w/ a gas engine. Just my personal preference, but I very much prefer towing w/ a diesel engine.
