I think it will be awesome for some people who definitely do not need a 6.7 liter diesel with 800-ft lbs of torque to tow a 9-10k trailer.
While a small displacement turbo-V6 or a small V8 gas could tow an 8-10k trailer comfortably, I would question the longevity of turbo's and transmission.
The 5.0 liter V8 Cummins hits a sweet spot at 555 ft-lbs of torque. Of course, it depends on what transmission it has. It has more torque than the 6.4 L Hemi big block, and the 6.2 liter Ford (both gas engines).
There is a HUGE gap between gas engines which give a 400-ish ft-lbs rating and the 800 ft-lbs ratings of the heavy duty diesels.
It's pretty obvious that there is a market there. Time will tell. But, choices are good for the consumer.
