First time I was awakened by an elbow and the muttered words "the awning is clanking" was the last time I went in for the night with awning still extended.

Nothing like a cold windy 2am wrestling match with a 16' awning retracting it before it gets ripped/damaged to make a believer out of you.

Going in for the night.......awning gets retracted regardless. :B
