We almost lost a manual awning years ago a sudden storm hit. In less than a minute the winds picked up and as my wife held the awning while I started to put it down, the force of the wind lifter the awning and DW right off the ground. Ever since then, our awning is retracted when we go to bed or leave the campsite.
