I pull a bunk house with a slide with my Expedition. I am still dialing in the WD hitch because I feel I am still a little light on the steer axle. Power is not a problem around the Midwest, but we have no mountains here. My TT advertised weights are 6,300 dry and 8,000 gross ... We will not get close to gross weight as we pack very light with no water. No way would I want to pull anything bigger.
If you are steadfast on a SUV, try looking at a 3/4 ton based Excursion, Suburban or Yukon as it sounds like you will be using yours much more than I do. You will get plenty of advise here on paying attention to the payload rating of the tow vehicle, this is what gets you on an SUV.
