IMO the brand is way more important than the rating (assuming you're within the rating for a given tire). Too many China bomb stories going around the net.
I talked to a fellow customer at my local dealer that had a tire explode and tear through the floor into his kitchen.
If you look, you'll find positive and negative reports for just about every brand out there. Lots tout Maxxis as the best brand, but you'll still find lots of blowout reports with the brand over the years. Maybe not as many as other, but they're still subjected to blowouts as are all ST tires from all brands.
Ratings on the other hand are something that's tangible. A tire with lots of reserve capacity is less likely to experience the conditions that causes damage, which leads blowouts. For example, heat buildup from operating near capacity or dynamic overloading. "China bombs" with lots of reserve capacity would be better than marginal Maxxis. Moving to a higher load range or switching to a different type of tire completely would be best to help lower the likelihood of a future blowout.
