Actually my diesel engine is almost as quite as a gas engine at idle and quitter than a gas engine while towing, because of it's ability to run at lower rpm's. Also my diesel engine exhaust literally has no smell at all. But yes a gas engine cost's a lot less and gas is ~ $1/gallon cheaper than diesel in my area right now.
