Ya, I looked that up after I read your post. Wonder what the logic was.
On Edit:
Have to wonder how much use 9th would be if you are only turning 1600 at 70 MPH in 8th.
1324 rpm by gear ratio calculations!
Problem is not the 9th gear ratio itself, but the diff ratio that Chrysler decided to pair up with.
If they put something like a 4.56 with the V6, then 9th would be useful and still efficient, with a killer 1st gear crawler, especially in 4Lo.
But no, they only offer something like 3.5xx for the V6, and I believe 4.0xx for the 4 cyl. Both of which renders 9th useless. The only car I can think of, that can get away with 1324rpm @ 70mph, is the ZR1.
I don't know. Why would you go with four OD ratios and give up one UD ratio on a vehicle designed to have good off road capability? Is it something they had to do in order to turn this transmission into a 9 speed? If so, why bother? Something doesn't compute. - LessmoreExplorer IIDon't know if anyone has put this link in this thread...but new Cherokee gets a very good review.
Jeep Cherokee - ib516Explorer IIMost owners are saying that seeing 9th gear is very rare...75 mph +

Trying to sell a minivan (even in Canada where they are relatively popular) is tough. The van was a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 (3.5L V6) front wheel drive with about 90,000 miles on it. It had the factory rear DVD system with wireless headphones, rear heat & A/C, etc. Had it listed at $7495, then $6995, then $6495, and got $6000 for it (CDN money remember). Guy who bought it had a 2006 Chevy Uplander (same vehicle but with a Chevy badge). His was totalled by hail dmg, insurance gave him $7900 for his, and it had 150,000 miles on it :E
I sold mine cheap I guess... but, at least it's gone.
Internet tracking says Jeep is:

I drove the new Cherokee this weekend. I like it a lot. Smooth shifting,PLENTY of power with the V6. I did not drive the 4 though, but that 6 is a rocket! Very impressed.:B
Yup, I found the 4 cyl "adequate" and the V6 "zippy". Almost identical mpg too. - BluhornExplorerI drove the new Cherokee this weekend. I like it a lot. Smooth shifting,PLENTY of power with the V6. I did not drive the 4 though, but that 6 is a rocket! Very impressed.:B
