my first diesel truck was 98 and been driving Cummins ever since. I already paid the entry fee. once you pay for your first diesel it holds the value through resale/trade in's and the next one is not as expensive. I have owned several, but did skip the years of the trucks that had particulate filters but did not use DEF.
But I could own either, and really like that new Hemi, but still went with the Cummins.
