Had an ARE fiberglass hard tonneau on my previous truck. Nice and secure, but completely useless for hauling anything taller than 18". I'd only need it off for an hour, but it would take two hours, and waiting for a friend to come help, to get off and back on.
Same problem with a topper except now the truck's fuel economy is suffering all the time, and I could haul slightly taller things.
On the new truck I went with a tri-fold soft tonneau. On and off in minutes, and I can fold it up and throw it in the back seat if I'm somewhere and need to haul something tall. Not as secure but not being able to see what's in the bed does help to deter tampering.
