Stick with gas to save up front costs, and lower maintenance, such as avoiding the diesel truck 10 quart (I don't know for sure) $150 oil and fuel filter changes.
Boy someone is getting ripped off....my dealer charges me $69.99 for a diesel oil change and filter plus 10% off of that. Every 6th oil change is Free.
Diesel fuel filter change is $99 plus 10% off of that.
Your dealer is probably losing money. The oil and filter alone at Wal-Mart prices costs more than that.
I can't say for a modern pickup but for my 2006 Fargo with 5.9 Cummins 3 gals of Chevron Delo would be about $36.00 Walmart dot com and Fleetguard oil filter is about $9 and me take about 15 minutes to change the oil and filter.
It has been a while since I changed my oil, but I don't think I could fill the engine with 3 gallons. The pan is 3 gallons alone and the filter another 2 quarts. You'll need four gallons to change your oil.
I also haven't bought oil at 12 dollars a gallon any time recently; it's more like 15 dollars a gallon x 4 + the $9 filter and he's paying under $60 for a change--he's getting a great deal.
