With the van, are you sure you can't fit the bikes? We've put to full-sized dirt bikes in a van before. It was tight, but putting one facing front and one back and it was doable. Height was the main issue so you might have to remove windshields if you have them. You could use a ramp and even install a small winch inside to pull them in.
Might be worth renting one for a day just to see if you can make it work if you don't know anyone who has one. It certainly could solve your problem and vans are typically way cheaper than trucks.
