Install insinkerator in TT

Has anybody installed a insinkerator garbage disposal in their trailer kitchen sink? I don't see why it would be too difficult. My wife likes to cook a lot with vegetables and it would be awfully convenient, like at home, to just dump the veggy remains down the sink and flip the switch to grind them up and swish them away.

  • Other than an accumulation of waste in the gray tank, I wonder about the logistics of installing a disposer. First, there's the space consideration (disposer in my home kitchen sink is pretty tall) and I'd be concerned if the weight of the disposer could be supported by the sink without cracking it, especially when the trailer is bouncing down the road. Big difference between hanging a disposer on a cast iron, acrylic, or stainless residential sink vs. the typical thin ABS plastic sink in an RV galley.
  • I would see if the campground has a compost bin, because that is where they should go (even at home!). I agree with everyone else, the less solids in the tank, the better.
  • Agree with the others. Pulverizing the left over veggies to a mush and then sending down the sink to a flat tank where they can lay on the bottom and build up and be a problem is a BAD IDEA. Scratch it from your (and your wife's) consideration list and use it as an excuse to carry the cutting board outside to a table and throw the chopped leftovers in a garbage can. This will get you outside more, give you some walking to do the dumpter after dinner (to prevent the leftovers from drawing critters) and most importantly, prevent you from having to work on a nasty, clogged gray tank that has decomposing food that smells almost as bad as the black tank.
  • Very bad idea. Put them in the garbage and save yourself some grief!
  • Be sure and post back with the question of how to open up a stopped up grey tank. I see one in your future.
  • I have had my sink drain at home clog after going thru the disposal, so really would not want to be putting anything like that into the tanks.
  • large quantities of vegetable and other "stuff" should go into the waste basket to be properly discarded. why junk up the grey tank with excessive food particles?
