thanks for the input everyone. i decided to just let the dealer install my brake controller, and I'll get the Prodigy. Seems this project might have been a bit over my head, so ill let the pros handle it.
I installed my Prodigy in our Chrysler Minivan. I used the Videos from E-Trailer and it was pretty straight forward. I had to install a circuit protected power tail light converter, mostly so that there is enough power to power the trailer lights...
I ordered the main wires from an eBay seller, I think they are 10 ga, very thick wires. I did install a 20 amp and a 30 amp auto reset circuit breakers for the 12 v power wire and the brake power wire.
It took some time but I am very satisfied with the install of my brake controller, trailer lights, and Hopkins 7-way/4 flat combo. I know every ring terminal, crimp, and piece of electrical tape in my install.
I have owned five different brake controllers over the years and this Prodigy is by far the best I have owned, I run the boost on B1 for my pop up and the trailer leads the van, meaning before my TV's brakes are actually braking I can feel the trailer already braking....this feeling of the trailer leading the TV is comforting. My trailer isn't jerking my TV around or slamming into the TV as I wait for the brakes to come on. This tension between the TV and the PUP leads for a very smooth braking experience.
I whole heartedly recommend a Prodigy...excellent and safe brake controller.
Thanks!
Jeremiah
