I always try to travel with an extra few gallons of gas secured away for longer trips which is not to frequently. It's for the just in case issues that can come up. I stop at 200 miles in on my 26 gallon factory truck tank, even though I can go a little more since I installed the tune. However some spots are just really hard to get fuel at especially since I don't know the area, hence I like the thought of carrying extra if possible.
It is only for diesel. I don't know of anything built for gas but there may be. I can usually find an accommodating fuel stop when we travel but there have been a few times in our years of travels that I pulled into a station only to wish I hadn't. The extra fuel gives me a little peace of mind in that it is just one less thing to be concerned about in our travels.
