Well your correct-but bottom line is even though the resister limits amount of power sent to motor by burning it off as heat/ wasted, it still uses less than at wide open. I measured our F/F when I first got it but didnt record. If motor uses 3 amps on high 2 on medium 1 on low-its not using 3 amps at lower speeds. Though resister uses some its not remainder of whats avaliable. I did this on our stove hood motor, converted to 2 speed by running power thru switch that either sends directly or thru resister. At high consumes 1.5 amps, low thru resister 0.9 amps. Even though part of that is heat/waste still saves power (& quiter).
