Have installed the controller on the GMC and run the necessary wiring back to the 7 pin connector. What a job. As mentioned in an earlier post, the brake light switch setup would not work. From observation of the brake light switch (after disassembling part of the lower dash) my switch had six wires on it. A call to Prodigy about the P-2 gave me the information that the place to get the brake light signal from is in the BCM (Body Control Module) that is located under the dash on the left side. A White Wire on Pin #11 of the Black Plug is the location that I was looking for. This is the brake light that sits on the top center of the roof line of the GMC. It's really tight up under the dash of this vehicle, and as I'm getting a bit older jockeying around to fasten the wire in properly resulted in lots of bruises on the arms and hands. I looked and looked for a good location for the Circuit Breakers for the +12 volt supply wire and the Circuit Breaker for the Brake Controller output wire and finally settled on under the dash for the location. Another round of jockeying with another set of bruises and I had them mounted. Ran a +12volt wire in 10 gauge from the battery (BUT DID NOT HOOK IT up at the Battery End.)to the Circuit Breaker and then a pair of 10 gauge wires to the rear of the vehicle for the output of the controller. Ground for the unit was also under the dash.
After splicing in the +12 volt supply wire from the battery and the Brake signal wire to the appropriate terminals of the seven pin connector, I went back to the front and the last connection was made to the +12 volt source under the hood. It was a RED capped post that is probably placed there for jump starting or charging the battery. It comes apart and I was able to get the +12 volt wire screwed down with a ring terminal. Hooking up the +12 volt wire was the LAST Connection that you should be making for this system so you don't take a chance on shorting out anything. At this point I got into the car and turned on the key and all was as it should be with the indicator lights on the controller giving me the proper signals.
At this point the next step of this operation is to install the actual brake parts on the trailer.
