Installing vent covers with non-walkable roof

Also, when I put my vent covers on, the bathroom vent was near the edge so I was able to get to that one without any problems but the vent over the queen bed was more in the middle of the roof so what I did was I sort of just laid down on the roof from my waste up. My feet left the ladder at times but not for long.and took care of the installation that way. It wasn't the most practical way of getting it down but it worked out in the end.

I installed 2 Maxx vent covers on the TT we had without any problems. Also had a cleaning crew wash and wasx it and they walked all around on top of it.

I used 2' x 4' scraps of plywood I had. I weigh 320 and my neighbor weighs about 160. He helped by working on the roof and I worked alternately from inside the trailer and standing on a ladder laying across the roof. We installed a Maxx Air cover and a Turbo Maxx.

Foam pads are the way to go. Or possibly a couple 2x6's layed from the edge to where you're working. I don't care for the plywood option just because it's too easy to drop them when moving around and have a corner penetrate the rubber roof.

I came home from work last week and to my surprise, my son had been on the roof of our puma TT. He was re-caulking the window & vent flashing. Incidentally he is close to 300lbs and caused considerable damage. He didn't fall through, but from the ladder I can see several indentations in the outside roof. There won't be a next time for him, I will use the foam pads if I ever need to get up there.

Good to know, thanks for the information that you got from the rep and your weight as a reference. My DH is a big guy, but perhaps if he uses the plywood trick, it will work just fine.

I use a couple of blue hard foam insulation boards, about 1 ft square. Light weight so you can easily carry them with you. And I crawl around on the roof, not walk.

If your Kodiak is the same construction as mine (2012 263RLS), then no worries with walking on the roof. I do it every second week actually, cleaning the surface prior heading on the road. No moaning, no weird noises when walking about, I stay a few inches from the various openings (skylight, AC, refer exhaust etc.). Just be careful of your show soles, making sure no small rocks are wedged in- they could damage the roof surface.

edit: forgot to add - the info about walking on the roof came form the Dutchmen rep that was onsite when I bought the TT last year. FYI, I weight 200#.

I installed vent covers on my Kodiak,use the plywood trick. Don't know if Mine is walkable or not but I heard some moaning and groaning so I dropped to all 4's and that seemed better..
