- Cocky_CamperExplorer III think you will be fine once it cools down, but getting it cool could take a while, especially in the hot and humid south.
- dodge_guyExplorer IIWe had a 13.5 in a 32ft trailer and it was always good except in the direct sun. I would think you’ll be ok with your 22 footer!
- sgfryeExplorerour previous TT was a 33ft 13.5 btu. it worked fine in the southeast summers... it took awhile to cool down when temps get in 90's but i learned to open bathroom vent and open rear window on the road to circulate air. that helped some. current TT is 37ft with 1 15k btu.
- philhExplorer IIIOne advantage, it will do the initial cool down quicker.
- GulfcoastExplorerA 15,000 is only 10% more cooling, but sometimes 10% helps. A little more airflow too.
- GrandpaKipExplorer IIWe stay in FL and SC quite often. The 13.5K unit does well for us in a 21’ box. Most of the time it is only run at night.
- mboppExplorer26' Heartland, 95 degrees, and the 13.5KBTU A/C handled it. But it really worked hard.
- prichardsonExplorer13500 is fine for that size. As colliehauler brought up if you oversize you don't get enough runtime for humidity control which is a big part of feeling comfortable. You will feel cooler at 75 degrees and 30 percent humidity than you will at 70 degrees and 60 percent humidity.
- wayfunExplorerThanks for the replies. Our last unit was a 36' trailer with dual AC units and 50 amp service. On really hot days we would use both units for the hottest part of the day. We do like to keep it cool, especially to sleep. I was hoping that a 22' unit could get by with a 13k unit.
Thanks,
Dennis - colliehaulerExplorer IIII don't know if it is like a home unit in the fact if you go to large it doesn't run enough to take the humidity out of the air.
My 13,500 works well in my 35' seasonal up North by the Canadian border. If the same trailer was parked in the Southern US I would probably want two 13,500 units for that size trailer.
If the 22' trailer is insulated a 13,500 should do the job.
