Is it dumb to pay cash for a used rig, private seller?

You all know me; I worry about things, especially at the last minute. I think I have found my van. Mechanic approves it. He's not my mechanic, as I am not home, but he had good reviews on google....

Oy, now we are having payment problems.

Because I am from out of state, bank will not let me take out cash. Seller does not want a cashier's check because they once got a bad one.

I texted seller to see if is good enough if they come to bank, see them issue the check.

Update: They said yes, whew.
