- OH48LtExplorerIs the fresh water tank really running dry? The next time your pump won't deliver water, open the fresh water tank drain and see how much comes out. If its several+ gallons, your pickup tube isn't in the bottom of the tank. A quick solution to that is to run a new pickup tube from the pump inlet to a T on the short stubby tank drain hose, between the tank bottom and the tank drain valve. You'll get every bit of water in that tank that way.
- ChooChooMan74ExplorerOne tip on saving water or space. I use a dish pan and dump my dish water down the toilet. Extra 30 gallons of space there that we NEVER fill up.
- austingtaExplorerI went camping at a COE park once and my teenage niece took a shower without proper instruction and ended up with water halfway up the bathtub! It was funny. Luckily we had services close by so no big deal.
- dave17352Explorer IIPeople use between 80 and 100 gallons of fresh water a day per person on average. That is what I have read. Old Biscuit are you talking about in the RV?
- Addy15ExplorerOur 28 gallon gray tank usually fills up in about 2 days -- showers ("navy-style"), washing dishes, brushing teeth, and washing hands.

Sure you are. The only other explanation is you didn't completely empty it the last time you did it.
OR you are believing a status light that is indicating FULL a lot sooner than is true.
But you do need to radically modify your hand and dishwashing habits when dealing with limited water resources.......either the input or output.
I use zero water on dishes when in the RV. I use paper which I discard or plastic which I wipe off and bag to recycle when possible. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIDo you leave sink faucet running when you:
Wash Face
Wash Hands
Brush teeth
Brush hair
Is kitchen sink a double sink?
Do you fill both sides...one sudsy and one for rinsing
OR do you leave faucet running to rinse dishes
Folks use on average 10-12 gallons per day in S&B
IF you don't modify water habits for RVng you will go thru lots of water w/o even knowing it - DutchmenSportExplorerWe have a plastic tub that fits very nice in our kitchen sink. We, very seldom let anything go down the drain. We usually do our cooking and cleaning outside, since the camper has the outside camp kitchen. Outside, we'll spray the dishes for a rinse. If washing inside, we catch in the tub. And yes, it is pretty amazing how much water runs over those dishes to rinse them. The tub (inside) usually fills up. I know it's a good couple gallons. We usually dump it down the toilet.
My tanks are 30 gallon on my Keystone. Grey galley is 30, grey shower is 30, and black is 30. And yes, we dump ever 2 days, all 3 tanks. It's just the 2 of us too, and the doggie! - BizmarksMomExplorerIt's easy to use a lot of water when washing dishes.
Personally, I use a dishpan. The wash water gets dumped outside if I'm boondocking. If I have hookups I put it down the drain, but I still visually know how much water I've used. - path1ExplorerDrain your tank using faucet, (kitchen or bath)
Fill up one gallon jug and empty into tank. Count how many times you can empty jug, repeat till water tank is full.
That is how many useable gallons you have.
One of three things...
1. If you can't repeat 30 times...you might as well have a 1000 gallon tank, if you can't use it...doesn't matter. Water exit on tank to plumbing pipes are up to high and the water pump is not able to suck out all water.
2. Your 30 gallon tank is what's advertised but really you have a smaller tank. And somewhere in manufacture advertising there is a little asterisk. In another spot look for words that reads "subject to change"
3. 30 gallons is only six big water bottles, learn to conserve, which takes awhile and source of "marital bless"
