Is my mileage unusual?

My 8.1L 2500 Burb gets 80mpg downhill towing a 6800# TT. By my calculations, I should be able to drive down from Michigan to Florida on a half a tank of gas. ;)
In reality, I budget for 9mpg where ever I travel. That's what I average with my Bullet.

FWIW, I also had damaged injectors caused by low fuel pressure, but it sounds like your problem was a tad deeper than mine with the water in the fuel. I use a Scangauge II to monitor the engine, including FICM voltages, oil and coolant temperatures, and I use an Autometer fuel pressure gauge to monitor that in real time, and I monitor battery charging voltage with a second Autometer gauge. I have an 05 PSD F250. And to be on topic, I get a max of 22 mpg unloaded and cruising and trying hard, and around 11.5 towing a tall car hauler at 9K lbs in hilly terrain. Much depends on headwinds, I've gotten worse but rarely much better than that. Coming from a Dodge Hemi 2500HD that did 7.5 - 9 mpg same load, same route, I actually buy one tank of fuel per day less with the Ford 6.0 when I am on a trip.

I may have missed what engine you have, but the 6.0L PSD is VERY sensitive to dirty fuel. You must keep up with the maintenance.

Low fuel pressure is certain death for the 6.0L PSD's fuel system, and dirty fuel is a killer for any diesel.

Glad you got it fixed up. I try and keep an eye on my mileage it's a good indicator if your truck is not running 100%. Hopefully the extra MPG's you get will help offset the repair costs

Finally got the answer to my mileage problem and I got it the hard way. Pulled into my son's house and unloaded the trailer. Few hours later went to get something from the store and the pickup rattled, ran rough, blew white smoke and had almost zero power.
Had it towed to the Ford house and guess what? Two injectors went south. Began to trace the problem back and found the fuel pump also was only putting out 40 lbs. pressure. Replaced all that and the Techs looked at what caused the problems in the first place and found filter full of water, then traced back to fuel tank. Pulled the tank to clean it and it was filthy with debris. Very expensive fix, however, since I have run solo and got 15.6 where as I had been getting 10.5.
Leaving in a couple of days to tow and I'll see how much it changes the towing mpg.

Thanks to all for the good advice. I got some good input here. Looks like my 4.10 is playing a part along with driving in tow=haul. I also will check the FICM. Just needed to know if something is wrong with most of the honest drivers saying they're getting 10.5-11 towing about the same load with the same driving habits.

We have a 2003 non HO SRW 3500 4x4 diesel. Towing our 7000 GVW horse trailer we average around 13 mpg. Going 60 mph, non towing, on a really flat freeway we can sometimes hit 20.5 mpg.

After reading hundreds of diesel MPG posts I have come to the conclusion that I need to buy a new hand calculator!!!!

My 6.7 psd, F350, 3:55, 6 spd, 4x4, sb gets 11 MPG on flat in FL, towing 14K at 62 MPH tow/haul, no cruise.

In some mild hills it drops to 10.5.

10K miles on truck.

Empty around town, it gets 16MPG.
