NO NO and NO.
True personal story NOT one found on the internet.
Friends 78 year old mother snowbirds thru the mountains every year "SOLO".
Daughter made sure she bought a toad with OnStar to MAKE SURE she could get help immediately in case of an emergency.
She hit a deer and crashed the toad on a remote stretch of road.
OnStar DID NOT WORK.
OnStar uses towers the SAME AS YOUR PHONE.
NO phone service where you are at? NO Onstar help.
Many think it is satellite driven and will always work. Which is nothing further than the truth. IMHO they should be forced to be more transparent that it uses cell phone towers and that you CAN and WILL be with OUT service in an area that does not have a tower close enough to it.
Had this lady been more severely hurt it could have been a matter of life or death. :(
