Is skirt under siding easily removable

Rig is an 04 Jayflight. I want to remove the "trim skirt" below the lowest aluminum siding panel to repair. The skirt is about 6 inches and rolled under the camper, it is attached with a few screws and a bracket. What I don't know is if it hooks into the siding or is installed just at the lower edge of the siding.

I tried to attach a picture but haven't figured that out yet. I've spent an hour on that all ready. You may be able to see the blue skirt in my signature photo.

Figured out the pic

  • It just slides up into the siding about 5/16". It should slip out easily once the screws are removed and any caulking at the ends loosened.
  • When you take that skirt off, have extra help as the aluminum is very thin. If any breeze catches it, or it get twisted they bend very easily.

When we put ours back on I used stainless Nylock nuts and stainless steel screws. Don't over tighten as it's easy to warp the skirt.

I have that skirting on my new Windjammer too and it looks like it's attached with screws underneath and is attached on the vertical sides with a trim piece. My trailer is fiberglass sided though. With your aluminum siding, the skirt probably hooks into the siding on the vertical side once you unscrew it at the bottom.
