The 4r100 is an automatic and it's not durable. You are thinking of the ZF6.
You are correct, I am confusing it with the ZF6 that came in the OBS trucks. I was thinking 2 different things in my last post. That is an excellent transmission on all fronts.
And yes, the E4OD is a good transmission. Is it the best, certainly not. But not as bad as people think. Spend 10 minutes online and you'll find MANY folks are running their 7.3L OBS E4OD trucks to well over 200K miles without issue. People seem to think that you can run the snot out of it since its in an HD application, even pulling heavy loads hard in OD. Well, you can't do that with any transmission in a heavy duty environment and expect it to last, regardless of of the manufacturer. This is one of the most popular transmissions from the '90s era ford trucks, broncos, and vans. When there are over a million of them on the market at any one time, you're going to hear many horror stories. Take it easy, keep the fluid in good shape, and that transmission can last a while. with the help of a high-quality custom tuner, you can control the shift points a little better to keep it from shifting in/out of OD at lower speeds.
And a second yes, I do have a good understanding of transmissions, engines, and nearly everything regarding older generation automotive mechanics. We could go into a discussion about "mine is bigger than yours" but that's just pointless and we know what happens in a pissing contest.
