For longevity:
1) Keep current on transmission fluid/filter changes.
2) Big transmission cooler.
3) Extra capacity transmission pan.
Trans fluid changes - YES, very helpful, but needs to be done on slightly shorter intervals when doing a lot of towing. Its not unreasonable to do it every 25K to 50K miles. Just a simple drain and replace when using that short of an interval is OK.
Big transmission cooler - YES, but you can skip the huge 6.0 cooler that many folks like and get a tru-cool max long cooler. That's a very popular choice, easy to install, and much less money. My regular driving trans temps with this cooler is around 150 to 160, and when hauling I rarely get past about 180 to 190.
Extra capacity pan - Not necessary. This myth has been busted a hundred times over in regards to its cooling benefit. Its perhaps helpful only in extreme conditions, but even then the benefit is marginal.
