That Edge or any "programer does nothing to protect the trans. Get the trans fixed and then get a JW or BTS valve body. My truck has 172K on it 70K towing heavy in the mtns in extreme heat here in the south west. I replaced the conv with a twin disc and added another cooler & JW valve body. Heat kills. But one of the best things you can do is toss the programmer and get some custom tunes that will control pressures in the trans to protect the clutches. My trans is the orig one and with the upgrades in my sig is still nice & tight.
Where I camp there is a 5 mile 6% and levels off for about 3/4 mile then 9 miles of 7% with no let up at all. Another one is 17 miles of 6% going to Flagstaff. Good luck.
In response to the post that stated most good trans shops should be able to build one. Most don't know enough about these. Brian @ BTS & John Wood use billet parts and remachine the drums and such. Most corner shops rebuild to oem. Some may but thos 2 shops stand behind their stuff. If going to a tuner be sure to pic a tuner of your choice and make sure the trans builder & tuner know you are using the others product so they can tune the tunes & valve body correctly for one another. Your truck will love you & keep you on the road.
