The Edge has indeed helped me protect my tranny via the gauges which have prompted me to pull over to keep my transmission from getting too hot the last 7 years. Given the numbers others have given re: max allowable temps I've stayed well under those numbers.
I don't have any idea what a valve body is, nor do I understand "custom tunes".
Bamaman....the new HD transmission from Ford is $2600 and that includes a new torque converter, which on it's own is $1400.
While this is only my opinion, unless you are willing to pay the price for something like a John Wood, or BTS tranny running any sort of modified PCM "tunes" is most likely going to drastically reduce the life of your tranny. Just check out the fine print in the warranty "exclusions" for all trannys except for the two I mentioned above and you might be surprised at what is in the fine print. I think even John Wood might have some exceptions such as "sled pulling" etc. and BTS is the only one that has ZERO exceptions on either HP or use ... the only warranty is if you can break it we will fix it so it doesn't break in the future.
