The Edge has indeed helped me protect my tranny via the gauges which have prompted me to pull over to keep my transmission from getting too hot the last 7 years. Given the numbers others have given re: max allowable temps I've stayed well under those numbers.
I don't have any idea what a valve body is, nor do I understand "custom tunes".
Bamaman....the new HD transmission from Ford is $2600 and that includes a new torque converter, which on it's own is $1400.
Where does your Edge Tuner get its trans temp reading from? Unless there is a hard wire going from to a sensor on the side of the tranny, then it may be getting some sort of reading from the PCM, and I don't know how accurate that could be.
