It's time to go! Westward Ho!

After many months of planning the time is finally here. We are leaving Sunday for our Big Trip Out West! First stay is a few days at Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma, then I-40 to Arizona to visit family; then to Utah for Zion and Bryce Canyon NP's, then up to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP's. Return route still tentative but last stop will be Houston to see our son. It's been a LOT of work getting ready but we think we have it all covered. Wish us luck!
  • No, we are going I-40 to Kingman, AZ to visit family, then take I-15 out of Vegas up to Utah. But thanks for the info.
  • Hope your not counting on going up HiWay 89 from Flagstaff to Page to get to Utah, it's closed. Here's a link to what I'm talking about.
    High Way 89
  • We won't be in Yellowstone until the first week of June; 4 days at Grizzly in West YS, Madison CG 3 days, Colter Bay RV Park 4 days and Fishing Bridge 4 days. We have allowed about 2 months total. Couldn't do it until I retired recently. I want you all to know how much I have learned about everything RV'ing on this forum. Any questions I have I usually find that the topic has been discussed. If it weren't for you folks I wouldn't have as much confidence about this trip, so thank you. I think I finally convinced DH to read it too. By the way, we got the Mountain West Road Directory which was recommended here. It is great!
  • Check ahead to be sure that some roads at Yellowstone are not closed due to snow.If they are there are several NPs in Utah close to Zion and Bryce that can take their place. Years ago friends could not get out the way they wanted to due to snow.
We take most of our trips in May or September, October also. The best time to travel. Have fun.

That's a great trip. We made one very similar a few years ago. Zion & Bryce are spectacular. Yellowstone & Tetons could still have lots of snow early May. At least we ran into it then.
    Have fun drive careful.
