Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, or Heartland

So we're looking to replace our Jayco 26BH that sustained hail damage. We were going away from a bunkhouse as we thought it would just be us but we are now grandparents so grandkids and possibly kids will still be in picture. Ones in particular we're looking at are SLX:264BHX, 267BHSW, 287BHSW. Jay flight: 26BH, 26 BHS, 27BHS, 28BHBE. Preference is the 267BHSW and the 28BHBE due to U shaped dinette.

We plan to keep this camper for 2-3 years. We liked our Jay Flight but pricing on the SLX in similar floor plans are enticing, looking for informed opinions on this from people who have researched or purchased either.

We are also considering a holdover 2014 Heartland RV Sundance 290 BHS, about $13K off MSRP but am a little hesitant as we're seeing 2017 models being offered now. I realize more money for new and am hoping the year will be a bargaining point.

One thought process we've been having is go a little less expensive and use the money saved for the vacations themselves. We use our camper for sleeping and rainy day activities otherwise we are out and about.

Tow vehicle is very capable of pulling any of the aforementioned. Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Pulled the trigger this morning and purchased a 2016 Eagle 284BHBE.

We really liked the new exterior color on the Jay Flight line up but we bought this Eagle for less money than a 2016 Jay Flight 28BHBE, they wanted $1000 more on the inbound 28BHBE than the 284BHBE that they received in February. No brainer for us, 35% off MSRP and more camper than we had initially set out to buy.

Looking forward to hooking up and seeing how that Duramax does.
  • U dinette is a gimmick in my opinion. Only a small toddler can fit in the end seats of the dinette. 27BHS is very nice unit with 80" queen and outside kitchen. Easy choice.

If you'll only be keeping it 2-3 years, why not consider a used unit?

New pricing appears to be good around here right now, used are not much less if any. Also, I am very particular about my stuff and often buy new so that I know how it has been treated since day one. In respect to that I also do well when I sell or trade such items.
