I think so too, eventually. However, it won't be for quite some time. The current fleet of battery/electric vehicles, while amazing, are still fairly limited. Infrastructure isn't there yet and won't be for some time.
Personally, I think we'll find ways to crack water cheaper and easier and run vehicles on hydrogen before we figure out all the hurdles to pure electric, but that's just me.
But a Tesla battery range is already more than that of a typical gasoline car.
My daughter takes a trip from San Jose to LA which is about 345 miles. Her Tesla shows 365 mile range on full charge (Tesla says full charge is 335 miles). Theoretically she doesn't have to make a stop for charging.
Tesla has charging stations all over the country and even have a trip planner so that you won't have a dead battery anywhere in the US. They also have charging stations in all major routes and cities in the whole of Europe.
With my truck pulling a trailer, I have to gas up every 200 miles and dream of Tesla's pick up with 500 mile range (gotta nag Musk as he promised a summer introduction and there are only a little more than a month into summer's end, lol)
