Jayco vs. Kodak vs. Starcraft

Looking for some guidance and experiences on the 3 brands mentioned. We are long time tent trailer owners, who briefly (about 4 years ago) had a HTT. Shamrock 21SS. I loved it but the wife thought it "too big". We went back to a tent trailer. Fast forward now and we are definitely ready to make the jump back to a HTT. We are shopping for a trailer somewhere between 19 and 21 (maybe up to 23') with a slide. I've narrowed down the choices locally (Boise Idaho) to these three brands.

Any experiences with those brands and advice is much appreciated.

    Kodiak way lower.

Dutchmen has a poor rep supporting owners of their Kodiak/Aerolite/Coleman hybrids.

There are a lot better hybrids than Kodiak/Aerolite hybrids.

    Based on what, forum complaints?

Yes and also based on my local dealer who sold Rockwood Roo and Aerolite hybrids.
They said they had way more issues with the Aerolites and Dutchmen was the worse to deal with.
  • I don't know if I'm just an exception, but I've had no trouble whatsoever with my Kodiak. Maybe it's an aberration!

Our 2012 Dutchmen / Aerolite hybrid was the best built of anything we have owned. In actuality they have no worse rep (Keystone, which Dutchmen is under the umbrella of) supporting owners than anyone else. When you get down to it none of these companies really give a **** when it comes to support now days. If you want poor support, buy a Forest River product.

  • We owned a 2012 kodiak 242resl for five years. We didn't have any major problems and loved it, just needed more space. Good luck in your search.
  • We have owned our Jayco for 6 yrs, it's been just okay though I have had to put more maintenance into it than I would have liked to. Most folks seem to have good luck with them from what I have read. Hear good things about starcraft, not so much about Kodak.

I believe kodak is part of thor industries and both ultra lite trailers are more entrance level and have had problems. I had owned a thor product in the past and it was junk.

FYI thor industries bought out Jayco 2 years ago but Jayco is still independently made from what I last heard.
