Most of the similar period campers I've looked at usually used thin bat insulation, applied to the outside of the frame and the aluminum skin installed over the top.
The Avion/Cayo truck campers were the only other ones I knew of that used spray foam insulation and most of the pictures I'd seen of Amerigos showed them using rigid foam board insulation, but not spray foam.
While we think of these things as common place these days, alot of the stuff in the Amerigo's was way ahead of its time.
