I think that philosophy would apply to any engine - gas or diesel.
I think the question still stands - If a Ram guy runs the same duty cycle as a Ford guy, and they both use good diesel rated oil, why the double interval for the Ram ?
I can't speak for why Ford's interval is the way it is on the 6.7L. I can just give you the info from Cummins on how they determine their interval. Why Ford's is twice as less is beyond me. Could be from fuel dilution concerns or just err on the side of caution.
I do know that we do UOA every 15k oil change on our fleet of 6.7L CTD service trucks and not one has come back with excessive wear or fuel dilution. I have also done a UOA on my second oil change (30k miles) on my personal truck and it came back fine as well.
Paul Brunke a engineer that worked on the Power Stroke design team said the OCI could have gone longer, but they chose to go a conservative route. I do know that these 6.7 PSD do not have fuel dilution issues and if driven mostly highway miles the OLM will allow to go 10k on a OCI.
On another topic I changed the oil in my truck yesterday and I'm trying the new Rotella 10W30 T4 oil which is supposed to be the new CK4 rating so we'll see if there's any noticeable difference in fuel economy.
